![]() Bottom line: Find a reputable lfs and the return policy should not be an issue. If the fish dies, you can at least get a store credit towards another purchase. Some stores will even let you purchase a fish and leave it in the store for a waiting period to insure that it is healthy. I have 2 reputable stores to buy from and have not suffered a loss of either fish or coral since then (knock on wood). While they do not refuse to sell new arrivals, they recommend waiting a period of time before buying them. One of the stores near me treats all fish that come in with copper and places an arrival date on new fish. Many of these shrimp are beneficial for eating left-over food missed by fish or even removing parasites from fish. Small, slow moving fish may become a meal for the shrimp and larger, more aggressive fish may be a threat to the shrimp. Lesson learned: Buy nothing live from Petco (not to mention adding inhabitants one at a time, rookie mistake). Saltwater shrimp are generally peaceful and okay to keep in a reef tank or with non-aggressive fish.
